Choosing the Right Key and Tempo

Most ASAP Rocky type beats utilize minor keys to evoke a moody, emotional tone. Db minor is a popular choice, as heard in "VELVET RICK," because it adds depth and tension. The tempo generally sits around 160 BPM, which is fast enough for energetic flows but allows space for varied rhythmic patterns. This tempo is common in trap and freestyle beats, supporting dynamic vocal delivery.

Drum Patterns and Trap Elements

Trap drums are fundamental in ASAP Rocky type beats. Producers use crisp hi-hats with intricate rolls, deep 808 bass kicks, and snappy snares to build a hard-hitting rhythm section. Layering these with occasional percussive fills and trap-style drum kits, like the one offered by MORTE (Drum Kit link), helps create that signature trap bounce.

Melodic and Atmospheric Components

Melody in ASAP Rocky type beats leans toward minimalistic yet haunting synth lines or piano riffs. Ambient pads and subtle background effects contribute to the track's texture, making it immersive. Using dark trap beat elements ensures the mood stays consistent, supporting the rapper's lyrical style, which often mixes introspection with bravado.
